Comfortable clothing, something like shorts/leggings/pants. Nothing too loose that is likely to flap around as this could get caught in the bike.
Location is one of the most obvious discussion points. The first step is for us to agree upon a location where to learn to ride a bike in Sydney.
Basic control skills (mounting, starting, stopping, steering, etc) need to be taught on a flat, hard-surfaced, open area free of any obstacles or traffic.
One of our favorite locations is Tempe Recreational Reserve. It provides a large surface area with alternate terrains to practice upon. If things progress quickly then we have easy access to more pathways around the Cooks River. Another good location is Moore Parklands which is close to Centennial Park.
If you can ride, even if it was a long time ago, and are just feeling a little wobbly, our Rusty Riders course is probably the best option.
It’s aimed at people who are coming back to riding after some time off the bike or are just not particularly confident, focusing on developing your control skills in off street situations where there is less pressure.
